Etsy fees in the UK: what a UK shop pays on one order

A shop with a UK bank account pays a 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 payment processing, a 0.48% regulatory operating fee and a $0.20 USD listing fee. Here is how they add up on one order, and a link to try your own numbers.

What is specific to the UK

Payment processing

4% + £0.20 on each order, stated in pounds. Etsy sets this by the country of your bank account. A US shop pays 3% + $0.25 USD, for comparison. Etsy describes the fee as charged on the item total including shipping and any applicable sales tax, and the calculator leaves sales tax out. Source: What are payment processing fees.

Regulatory operating fee

0.48%, charged on item price plus shipping (and gift wrap). The UK is on Etsy's list of countries that charge it. The US, Germany and Australia are not on that list. The calculator applies the 0.48% to quantity × price − discount + shipping charged, and it has no gift-wrap box. Source: What is a regulatory operating fee.

The rest of the bill

Etsy states these without naming a country, so the calculator uses them for UK shops too: a 6.5% transaction fee (Etsy fee basics), a $0.20 USD listing fee (fees and taxes for selling on Etsy) and, only on orders Etsy attributes to its ads off Etsy, an Offsite Ads fee of 15%, or 12% once your shop has made $10,000 USD or more in any consecutive 365 days, never more than $100 USD per order (how Etsy's Offsite Ads work). The main page explains each fee.

Which amounts are in which currency

Pounds: the 4% + £0.20 processing fee, as Etsy states it, and every amount in the example. US dollars: the $0.20 listing fee, the $100 Offsite Ads cap and the $10,000 threshold, which Etsy states only in USD. You enter the listing fee in your shop currency, so the calculator's 0.20 is a plain placeholder, not Etsy's USD amount converted. No exchange rates are stated or used here.

A worked example

One order from a UK shop, using the calculator's United Kingdom preset. It has no discount and is not an Offsite Ads sale. The amounts are round numbers, not a typical order.
